JUDY JOHNSTON, MS, RD, LD

Background:
Judy A. Johnston is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with more than 20 years experience in management and clinical hospital dietetics, specializing in Diabetes management. In 1990, she joined the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) with a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation through which she created Kansas LEAN (Leadership to Encourage Activity and Nutrition), a statewide coalition of more than 700 partners to provide leadership in the areas of nutrition and physical activity at the community level. During her tenure with KDHE, Ms. Johnston became nationally recognized for innovation in nutrition education and development with the National Cancer Institute of the community roll-out of the 5-A-Day For Better Health program, community development, school-based wellness programming, program evaluation and community leadership. She is the author of a number of articles and book chapters on these topics, as well as a nutrition and physical activity board game, "Jack Sprat's Table"
In 1999, Ms. Johnston moved to Kansas State University, where she was an Extension Specialist in the Community Health Institute and Co-Principal Investigator on an NIH-funded R-01 research grant as part of the NIH Behavior Change Consortium. At the same time, she moved her office to the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita where she was a Teaching Associate.
In September 2003, Ms. Johnston joined the faculty at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita as a Research Instructor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. She continues her grant-funded research in health ministry in faith communities, leadership, oral health, cancer prevention and survivorship, nutrition, and physical activity while teaching in the MPH Program. In 2009 she was named Program Director and part of the development team for the KUSM-W Breast Cancer Survivorship Center in Wichita. Judy is a Kansas Health Foundation Leadership Fellow, a Kansas Public Health Leadership Fellow, and faculty for the Kansas Leadership Center.
Judy is a 14-year breast cancer survivor. She and her husband Bill celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary in September of 2009. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Lori, who lives three blocks from them with her husband, Greg, and their beautiful daughters, Chesley (age 4) and Audrey (age 2).
SUSAN KANG
ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR POLICY AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT-
Background:
In her capacity as Assistant Secretary at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Susan Kang provides leadership and strategic guidance on legislative and external policy. She is responsible for shaping, guiding and executing the legislative agenda for the agency and working with the Governor's office, the legislature, and partners to ensure passage of critical bills. In addition, she oversees the Communications Office and provides guidance on press releases, media inquiries and agency publications. She began serving at the department in 2003.
Ms. Kang was invited to participate in the 2009 Kansas Health Foundation Fellows program, and was also selected as a member of the 2009 Leadership Kansas class. She is also a 2005 graduate of the Kansas Public Health Leadership Institute.
Prior to her tenure at KDHE, Ms. Kang practiced law for a number of years in a variety of positions. She moved to Kansas in 1998 from Boston, where she served as, among other things, an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ms. Kang received her law degree from Northeastern University in Boston and her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
DR. MARY BETH MILLER, MD
CHIEF OF STAFF
CHEYENNE COUNTY HOSPITAL-
Background:
Dr. Mary Beth Miller is the current chief of staff at Cheyenne County Hospital in Saint Francis, Kansas.
She attended medical school at the University of Kansas, where she was involved with the Pathology Honor Society and the Family Medicine Interest Group. As a resident, she was the Residency Representative and member of the Legislative Affairs Committee for the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors.
Dr. Miller is currently on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians and is the Co-Chair for the KAFP Legislative Committee.
She has given numerous presentations on breast cancer prevention and is personally a breast cancer survivor. She is married with three children.

CORRIE EDWARDS, MPA
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
KANSAS HEALTH CONSUMER COALITION -
Background:
Corrie Edwards is the Executive Director for the Kansas Health Consumer Coalition. This statewide organization advocates for affordable, accessible, and quality health care in Kansas. Corrie earned Bachelors degrees in Human Services and Psychology from Friends University in Wichita, and holds a Masters in Public Administration from Wichita State University.
Her commitment to advocacy spans over fifteen years of involvement in the human service field. She previously served as Programs Director for Keys for Networking, Inc., another state-wide non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of parents and children with serious emotional disturbances. Her focus and passion is to ensure people have enough accurate information to make informed decisions.
To further her vision, Corrie helped develop two family network organizations in Nebraska that provided information, support and resources to families of children with disabilities. Over the years, Corrie has received national recognition including the "Making A Difference" Award from the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health.
She is a breast cancer survivor.
